Women Business Owners: How Being "a Good Girl" Rips You Off
Women Business Owners: How Being "a Good Girl" Rips You Off
This article is not for women business owners who sigh, “I may not make much money but at least I’m home with my kids.” This article is not for those women dabbling at a business as a hobby. This article is for women who’ve worked hard, been around the block a few times and are tired of working so hard for so little results.

I’m going to say something that might shock you: being “a good girl” can seriously rip you off.

How can this be? Aren’t we trained that the way to get what we want in life is to be “nice” and our patience will be rewarded?

Let’s be honest. It still works that way in our personal lives but as a small business owner it can and usually does rip you off big time.

I’m not suggesting you be rude, pushy or obnoxious in business with people. Nothing can be worse. I’m suggesting you stop apologizing and stop making allowances for the fact that you’re a woman in business.

As a marketing trainer for a very large seminar program I coached over 1,200 men and women in marketing during a five year span. I began tracking the startling differences between men and women when it comes to getting the word out and how they run those businesses. Most women dislike marketing and selling so much that they will do almost anything to avoid it. They will even lower their rates for their products and services way below the going rate to avoid it. Many women smile brightly and say, “I just wanted to be nice” but that decision to lower rates impoverishes her in the long run.

Women who own a service-oriented business charge less (much less) than most men with similar skills and experience. Over and over I’ve heard that lame explanation, “I just want to be nice.” But it rips you off. Why? Because in the world of business when you don’t charge the going rate for your services you are not thought of as “nice” instead you are thought of as “not as good.” Something must be wrong or of course you would charge the prevailing rate for your time. And, when you are thought of as “not as good” there’s a very good chance you will attract less than ideal clients and customers.

The truth is most of these women are so uncomfortable marketing and selling themselves they mistakenly believe if they charge a lot less they won’t have to get the word out because people will be attracted by lower prices. What’s even tougher to acknowledge is that often women are not even charging enough for their highly skilled services to cover basic business expenses and overhead.

But women who sell themselves short get caught in the squeeze than when they go to pay their bills at the end of the month. After all, you can’t say, “Gee, I’m really nice person and I charge about half of what I should to my clients and customers. Would you give me a discount?” Of course you’re caught in the middle – working harder than ever and still struggling.

Why do we do this as women?

• We hate getting the word out and marketing and selling – the idea of being “pushy” or “too strong” holds us back from telling others how good we truly are at what we do.

• We come from a long tradition of being seen as “nice” for giving away our time and efforts. After all we’re the ones more likely to volunteer in the community at the PTA, library, hospital or place of worship

• We confuse business with philanthropy. Let’s get it straight: business is about making money in exchange for goods or services we provide to our paying customers. Philanthropy is about non-profit organizations whose purpose is giving money and services away to others in need.

In my myth-shattering book “Testosterone-Free Marketing” the secrets regarding why we hold ourselves back and what to do about it are revealed. When you feel more confident and believe in your worth you will charge what’s fair and in line with the marketplace rather than falling into the good girl trap that keeps you struggling.

One of the things I discuss in my book is having “a sense of entitlement.” This means you believe at your very core that you deserve to enjoy successful and create money and prosperity with your business efforts. Many women instead believe it’s more important and noble to “feel good” about what they do. They define feeling good as giving it away. I believe you can charge fairly for what you do AND feel good. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Consider if being “good” is ripping you off or holding you back. Increasing your confidence level and your marketing savvy can be the two biggest things you do to enjoy more success and prosperity this year.

Women Play to Win in Business and Life
Women Play to Win in Business and Life
Have you seen this happen to a woman you know?

She gets very close to success - then turns her attention in another direction.

She has an opportunity to "shine" at a meeting, but turns it over to someone else.

You compliment her on what a great job she did and she gives credit to the team instead.

She has a million-dollar idea, but decides to take the safer route and get a steady job and pursue the idea "later."

These are examples of "playing not to lose" and it's often a common ailment of women in business. It's taking the safe option instead of really going for it.

While part of this may be a result of our culture, we still have choices. And that choice can be to "play to win!"

There are five principles for a "Play to Win" attitude.

1. Be Decisive. In business there are opportunities that are time-sensitive and if you delay in making a choice, you may lose the chance. From ordering lunch to signing contracts to choosing the ideal outfit, you need to learn to trust yourself and make decisions quickly. Start with the menu at lunch tomorrow. Make your choice in less than a minute, then enjoy more time for your lunch and the conversation.

2. Live with a Commitment to Learning. Part of the learning cycle is recognizing and admitting that you don't know. Be open to asking questions and give up the need to be the ultimate authority. You'll enjoy a confidence that it's okay to be you.

3. Learn from Mentors with Experience. Successful people did not achieve their success alone, yet we sometimes think we need to do it all ourselves. Seek out a mentor and absorb their guidance and advice. It doesn't make you appear less capable by asking for help. It evokes thoughts of "Winner" when you are willing to ask for mentoring.

4. Be Resourceful with Daily Activities. Women are naturally good at multitasking, so we tend to be very efficient. But what that talent does yield sometimes is a lack of focus. So learning to balance the focus and the multitasking is key to the Play to Win attitude.

5. Join a Team of Like-Minded Players. In the famous book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, the power of the Mastermind is emphasized. It is important to align yourself with others who are on the level to which you aspire. So be cautious in your associations with people, organizations and even what you read and watch! Be sure they are on the same winning level.

Learning to Play to Win is a process which can be learned and practiced on a daily basis. Start now to stomp out that "playing not to lose" attitude and start winning!

Perfumes And The Various Types
Perfumes And The Various Types
Perfume fragrances were classified by Charles Piesse who was a perfumer from the 19th century. Charles had actually tried to classify each type of fragrance to a musical a musical chord. Unsurprisingly his system failed but the terminology stuck on. The current perfume fragrance pyramid was invented by William Poucher in the 1920’s. The fragrance pyramid is based on the instability of the perfume ingredients or how fast the fragrance fades away

The fragrance of a perfume is described as top note at the point when it just gives you a whiff and then passes on. The heart notes then follow where the fragrance actually has a chemical reaction with your skin; and finally are the base notes where the true essence of the fragrance is revealed when the highest molecular weight from the ingredients begin to surface.

There different categories of scents to describe perfumes meant for women and perfumes meant for men. Under the women’s category, we have the most common scent, which is floral. This is in fact the largest category and the primary ingredients are from flowers like rose, jasmine, carnation, violet and orange blossom. Some of the perfumes that come under this category are Paris and White Diamonds. Some of the sub categories for floral fragrances are like floral green (Bvlgari, Chanel 19); floral fruity (Baby Doll, Amarige) and floral woody (L’Eau D’Issey, Romance)

The next category is oriental. This means the scent is made to create warm, exotic impression because of its ingredients like balsams, spices, resins and musk. Perfumes that fall under this category are Royal Secret, Contradiction and Shalimar. Some of the sub categories of oriental are oriental spicy (Opium); oriental citrusy (Candies); floriental (Hugo Woman, Wings) and oriental gourmand (Angel, Casmir and Wish)

The other categories of perfumes are chypre, citrus, fougere and green. Chypre was first described by Francois Coty to describe the aromas from the island of Cyprus. This fragrance is generally sweet, soft and earthy with ingredients like oakmoss, patchouli, bergamot and citruses. Some of the well-known perfumes under this category are Paloma Picasso, Fendi and Femme. Citrus fragrances have citrus fruits like tangerine, lime, mandarin and lemon in them. These are very common in men’s fragrances. Examples of citrus scented perfumes are CK One and Jess. Fougere is French for fern, which relates to freshness and is best described in Cool Water. Green fragrances are from green plant parts like grass, pine and herbs. Safari and Bvlgari Extreme best describe this scent.

Now that we are familiar with the fragrances, what about the concentration? We frequently hear about edt and edp.

Actually, perfumes are the combination of fragrant oils that have been mixed in high-grade alcohol where 15 – 25% is oil and 90 – 95% is pure alcohol. This concentration is known as parfum. When the percentage of oil is lower then it is know as eau (water)

The strength of the eau can vary depending on the percentage of the pure perfume oil that is contained. EDC (Eau de cologne) has the least concentration with just 2 - 5% of perfume oil mixed in water and alcohol. EDT (Eau de toilette) has a bigger concentration of 4 – 10% of perfumed oil. EDP (Eau de parfum) has 8 – 15% perfumed oil and the most highly concentrated of all fragrances is Parfum or perfume, which has 15 – 25% of perfumed oil.

Hair Transplant Techniques
Hair Transplant Techniques
People are always conscious of their appearance. No one prefers a bald head so modern technology has introduced different methods of hair transplant The success of hair transplant surgery depends upon the type of hair transplantation procedure one adopts during hair restoration surgery.

Gradually hair transplant has taken a new turn in the span of time with single follicular hair being the standard unit of hair transplant surgery. The hair transplant procedure has now become standardized. A long string of hair transplant starts with the harvesting of donor´s hair. It begins with the excision of 1cm and 20cm long strip of hair from donor site. The strip is tapering at end to facilitate easy removal.

The dissection of strips is the next step. After the strip is excised from the donor site it is handed over to the surgical assistants. Then he cuts the strip into many fine strips with the use of stereoscopic microscope. This process of transplantation of donor strips into many strips is technology termed as silvering.

Earlier most of the hair restoration surgeons used to take help of multi blade knife for cutting the strip into silvers. However after the introduction of stereoscopic dissection of microscope the use of single blade has gained much acceptance. After the completion of slicing of strips, the next hair transplant procedure consists of dissecting of these silvers into categories of grafts again with the use of dissection microscope.

In case of dissection of one–haired follicular unit it is called follicular unit graft, in case of two–haired it is called micro-graft, in case of three haired follicular units it is called mini-graft.

Making slits on the recipient site is the next procedure after micro-grafts and mini-grafts and follicular unit. This is one of the most important procedures. The natural direction of the hair plays an important role in the surgery. The size of the slit is also of immense importance. The size of slit and size of graft to be transplanted should be same. Different sizes of blades are used for different kinds and sizes of follicular units and groups of follicles.

Laser hair transplant is another method. It has proved to give much natural results. In this process a laser beam is used to vaporize a narrow slot in scalp for implanting hair graft. It is capable of transplanting hundreds of graft dramatically and thus also reduces the time of hair transplant surgery.

Latest Technology In Removing And Reducing Stretch Marks
Latest Technology In Removing And Reducing Stretch Marks
Stretch marks have often been a reason for us to be self-conscious. Because of these scars, our confidence level in wearing a string bikini hits rock bottom. Anybody can relate, that is why there are many techniques on how stretch marks can either be entirely removed or reduced and made less noticeable.

According to doctors, stretch marks are not hazardous to one’s health. Having them does not limit the body to function properly. In fact, stretch marks are like scars. And just like scars, stretch marks are damages to the dermis. What makes it difficult to deal with is because they can be too dark and too ugly to look at.

Some people resort to lotion and topical creams. They diligently and religiously apply these on the surface and hope that there will be improvements. In some cases, there are. In others, it does not. At least, not as much as they expected it to work.

There are so many ways on how you can remove or reduce those pesky stretch marks. Here are some of the latest:

1. Retin-A Treatment

This is what doctors normally recommend. You cannot purchase Retin-A without a prescription. However, this solution works best if the stretch marks are less than a year old. For you to know when the perfect time to try this remedy is if your stretch marks still have a pink or reddish color. Problem is, not all stretch marks start off with that color. There are limitations when you can use this. Do not use Retin-A if you are pregnant and breast-feeding because this might have a side effect on the infant. The way for you to know if the solution is working for you is if you feel a burning and peeling sensation on the surface you applied it on. This means that the new generation of collagen is replacing the old damaged one.

2. Micro-Dermabrasion Treatment

In this process, chemical materials containing micro-crystals are sprayed on the skin using a device similar to a vacuum cleaner. This treatment required multiple sessions, normally 10 to 12 sessions in a span of three to four months. Unfortunately, micro-dermabrasion treatment is brutally painful. Some who tried this said that it was similar to being lashed and whipped. The process may also create additional scars. After one session, you are not allowed to go directly under the sun so as to not have further side effects. At the moment, researchers are still looking on the effectiveness of this surgical remedy.

3. Laser Treatment

Laser or Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation has been used in eye surgeries and removal of tattoos. Laser has been proven to be highly effective when it comes to surgeries. With it, wrinkles, scars, acne, facial and body hair have been successfully removed. In removing stretch marks, the procedure can be very painful. There would be bruising, scabbing, peeling and redness after the session. Multiple sessions are required in the treatment. However, just like all remedies, this does not work for everyone.

Technology has been helpful in our lives. Latest discoveries make life easier for us. As it turns out, these discoveries in technology also contribute in enhancing aesthetic appeal. Whether the stretch marks be completely removed or merely reduced, at least the conducted processes are proof that technology assists us in many ways imaginable.

Lipsticks – the facts
Lipsticks – the facts
Lipsticks which are richer in color and texture than lip gloss are a cosmetic Product that is applied in Lips. It is used primarily to apply color to Lips. Most of the Lipsticks are red or reddish in color. This is because it stimulates sexual arousal appearance. It also reddens the Lips and increases the blood flow. It intends to make to make the wearer more sexually attractive.

Lipstick is available in a massive and varied selection of colors and shades with modern pigments. Many chemical ingredients are present in a typical Lipstick. Lipstick contains Pigments, Oils, Waxes and Emollients. In order to cover the odors and tastes of the other ingredients, perfume and flavoring may be added. While reviewing the history of Lipstick it’s found that Lipstick does not have a known origin.

It is known to have been used around 5000 years ago in ancient Babylon. In those days semi-precious jewels were crushed and applied to the Lips and occasionally around the Eyes. Ancient Egyptians extracted purplish-red dye from fucus-algin, 0.01% Iodine, and some Bromine mannite, which resulted in serious illness.

Crushed Carmine beetles, which gave a deep red pigment, and ants for a base was used by Cleopatra. From pearlescence, a substance found in fish scales, Lipstick with shimmering effects were made. Makeup was declared vulgar by Queen victoria as prostitutes were usually the only ones who painted their Faces.

Wearing makeup before marriage is also forbidden. Because it is considered as a trick to show her husband into thinking she was beautiful. During the the reign of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, Lipstick started to gain popularity. She made blood red Lips and stark white faces a fashion statement.

Lipstick was made from a blend of beeswax and red stains from plants by that time. It gained the respect of the movie industry, and it became commonplace for Women to apply makeup

Until a female reaches adolescence or adulthood it is not worn. Men wearing Lipstick may be viewed as carrying a social stigma. Male use of makeup does not fit traditional Twenty-first Century gender roles.

A combination of Lipstick and lip liner is Lip-duo. a wax-free semi-permanent liquid formula, and we have more versions of the same in the name of "lip stain" or "liquid lip color". These are aslo very popular among young Women who consider that without Lipsticks their make up is not complete.

Take Care Of Your Skin
Take Care Of Your Skin
Every woman desires to have a beautiful and flawless skin. But in order to achieve such an outcome, it is essential to know which the right way to do it is. Today's cosmetic industry provides a woman with so many choices that is rather difficult to select one that covers the specific needs of a particular skin complexion. Thus, it is important for a woman to know what exactly she needs to look for and how to apply what she purchases so as not to suffer later due to lack of knowledge.

- The 3 Steps: Every woman knows that there are three steps that can make skin feel clean and look healthy; cleansing, toning and moisturizing. But not all women know that it is important to use the products that are appropriate for their own skin type. Cleansing soaps can be rather harsh for your sensitive type of skin, or others do not clean as deeply as you wish. Buy the one that is appropriate for your skin's condition and try to observe how your skin reacts to every application; even if you have been using it for years. Additionally, if the toner you use makes your skin feel extremely dry afterwards, it is probably not the best choice for you. Even if you have previously used it and there was no irritation, due to temperature variations or season allergies, your skin may have become more sensitive and needs more care. In general the toner should be mild and not make your skin feel tight. Finally, if your skin type is oily it is better to purchase moisturizers that are oil free. Always apply some type of moisturizer after you wash your face. On a daily basis, regardless if you plan to use makeup or not, moisturizing your skin is extremely important for it to stay healthy and glow. Experts also advice women to use glycolic acid, as it is a gentle scrub that removes dull dead cells, surfacing a polished smooth skin. In fact, it gently exfoliates and retextures skin's surface.

- Using sunscreen: It is vital for your skin's health to apply a skin sunscreen suitable for your skin's tone, every time you are going to expose your skin to the sun. This should not happen only every time you are planning to go to the beach. Even if you are driving to work on a sunny day and you are inside your car, it is important to protect your face and body by applying a sunscreen lotion at least fifteen minutes before you move outdoors. Remember to reapply if you are constantly out or you are sweating.

- Balanced makeup: Stay close to your natural tone and always select a foundation that is suitable for your skin type. Looking fresh and keeping your skin healthy can be combined if you ask for experts help when visiting a beauty care salon or store and always remember to check the applicator before purchasing your new foundation.

- Masque and glow: For an extremely good looking skin, apply a masque once or twice every week and you will have a radiant complexion in minutes. Consult an expert and buy the masque that will cover your skin's needs and will leave you with a refreshing feeling.

- Soap is not always your best friend: Regular soaps are not for your face. The oil-rich protective film your skin produces to keep its surface healthy by preventing bacteria and other infections from developing is striped off your face if the wrong type of soap is used. Thus, use a soap-free cleanser and always apply a moisturizer afterwards.

- Expensive is not better: Some women think that the expensive products usually have the best results. This is not always true. The important thing is to know your skin type and then research and buy the product that can cover your needs while not exceeding your budget's limits.

Skin Changes During Menopause
Skin Changes During Menopause
During the course of the natural menopause process, many women notice surprising changes in the texture and appearance of their skin. Most women begin noticing a generalalized all-over drying of the skin. They also start to notice wrinkles forming where the skin has begun drying.

It is common to turn to estrogen based hormone replacement therapy to treat these and other menopause-related skin problems. The side effects from this type of therapy, though, can lead to further problems. If a cream form of estrogen is used on the affected areas, it can act as a moisturizing agent. However, this cream is unavailable n the United States so most doctors are unable to prescribe it. Progesterone cream has also been successful as a moisturizer, but most doctors believe the side effects outweigh any benefits of prescribing it to their patients. However, there are a number of anti-aging, non-prescription creams that are gaining popularity, and most of them are very effective. It is helpful to keep in mind though, that aging skin is a part of growing older. To some degree, accepting it instead of fighting it may help you retain abetter overall self-image. If you do attempt to use something like estrogen cream, you may have to live with side effects such as general weight gain or darkening skin.

If your skin loses its tone or the wrinkles appear rapidly, it may be an indication of collagen loss. This can result in more serious problems, like collagen loss in the bones. This may indicative of osteoporosis. If you suspect that this is the case, you should consult your physician immediately.

As your skin ages during menopause, you are more prone to developing broken capillaries or spider veins that are visible to the naked eye. One of the best available means to prevent these is full body moisturization. You can begin by increasing your daily regular water consumption. It is also beneficial to supplement your diet with raw flaxseed oil. It can be added to vegetables or salad. Using herbal liposome-containing skin products can also help moisturize your skin. Liposomes transport moisture to the cells below the epidermal layer. This can protect and benefit your overall skin tone.

There are a number of other available products that may moisturize your skin during menopause. Apricot kernel oil, Cocoa butter, olive oil, and almond oil have all been proven to be quite helpful at hydrating the skin. Alpha hydroxy acids naturally rejuvenates the skin by exfoliating it. Check the product labels on these products, to ensure that concentrations contain at least eight percent alpha hydroxy acid. Fruit acids are also effective to promote skin rejuvenation. Two popular examples are papaya and strawberry pastes.

Learn to live with your post-menopausal skin. Take care of it and protect it by remaining out of the sun and applying daily sun screen. Use only products that you know to be effective on your skin. Always consult your doctor or healer when you have concerns or are trying something new.

Hair Loss In Women, More Common Than You Think
Hair Loss In Women, More Common Than You Think
Hair loss for women is not something you hear much about, but in reality there are many women of all ages suffering the emotional agony of hair loss.

Whether you are 20 or 60, hair loss seems to start suddenly and the panic and anxiety associated with it can be devastating. It is relatively acceptable for men to walk around with bald spots or even no hair, but for women, there is no justice in it. It is not socially acceptable for women to have hair loss.

After the initial shock, you are faced with, well, what am I going to do now?

Well, the first thing to do is educate yourself. There are many reasons why women can experience hair loss.

- Birth control pills can lead to hair loss in some women due to the hormonal changes that occur. It can happen when you’ve begun taking the pills or after you have stopped taking them.

- Women who have just had a baby can experience hair loss shortly after the birth or a few months later. This is because during pregnancy, estrogen levels increase and the normal shedding of hair does not necessarily take place until the hormones level out and then a mass shedding begins. This is temporary and should sort it self out on its own.

- Thyroid problems are one of the main causes of hair loss in women. If you have an under active or over active thyroid, women can experience hair loss. A check with you physician can determine if that is the case and steps can be taken to address that problem.

- Diet can be a cause of hair loss. Whether you are eating a high calorie diet that has few actual nutrients, or you are literally starving your self over a long period of time, your body will be deficient in the nutrients it needs for proper body function. Hair loss in this case can be a symptom of other things going on with your body as well.

To maintain hair health it needs vitamins and minerals. Zinc and iron deficiencies have been linked to hair loss. Hair also needs protein, specifically, amino acids. There are many amino acids but the nine essential amino acids are crucial to hair growth. To help with hair growth, women can also supplement with herbs such as, rosemary, sage and saw palmetto.

There are effective over the counter hair growth products such as Minoxidil that jump start your hair growth while you are correcting what is causing the hair loss.

Hair loss can be devastating but finding the correct cause and treating it from the inside and out, one can have a full head of hair. Be patient, educated and determined to correct it.

Eyebrows - Tips For Tweezing
Eyebrows - Tips For Tweezing
Eyebrows - Tips For Tweezing: To minimize the pain, numb the eyebrow area first either with a baby's teething pain preparation or numbing toothache preparation or even a little ice.

The hair can be softened first with a hair conditioner or shaving cream.

Steam your eyebrows with a hot washcloth for five minutes or tweeze right after a hot shower to open the pores so the hair comes out more easily.

Invest in a professional pair of tweezers so you have a clean, sharp pair each time. If you are serious about tweezing, buying a good quality pair is essential.

Use natural light wherever possible.

First clean up the area between the eyebrows by plucking any stray hairs.

Pull the skin taut and remove hairs as close as possible to the root.

Pluck in the direction of the growth.

Shape your eyebrows by plucking from underneath rather than from above to create a natural arch.

To close the pores of the skin after plucking, use an astringent or soothe irritated skin by applying warm petroleum jelly.

Shaping: 3 Steps

1. First thin the eyebrow, then slowly define the arch. The arch should reach the highest point above the middle of the iris.

2. To determine where the eyebrows should begin and end, hold a pencil vertically against the nose. Where the pencil meets the eyebrow above the nose should be the starting point.

3. Next, with the pencil still held against the nose, tilt it diagonally so that it rests against the far corner of the eye. That is the outer point where the eyebrow should end.

Changing the Shape

To avoid tweezing into a shape you later regret, first use a white eyeliner pencil to color in the areas under your eyebrows which you think should be plucked.

If you don't like the shape, remove the white eyeliner and redraw. Once your are satisfied with the shape, tweeze the hairs in the white area.

About The Author
Mike Jones is a writer and webmaster with over 10 years experience. His recommendation: Recommendation: To reduce the need for tweezing eyebrows, apply Kalo Hair Inhibitor Lotion with a cotton swab right after tweezing. This significantly reduces the hair growth.

Changing You And Still Be You
Changing You And Still Be You
It is not considered a sign anymore to admit that there is at least one feature you would change if you were not afraid or if you had the necessary budget available. The "problem" of a weak chin or a funny nose to ears that stick out and breasts that are too small, can lead people from all around the world to visit their local or foreign cosmetic surgeons' offices and ask their professional opinion in redesigning their features in accordance to their ideal representation of themselves. The good news today is that cosmetic surgery of the face involves far more than just the basic garden variety facelift. With the vast variety of modern cosmetic surgery methods, most surgeries can be done as a day case under a twilight anesthetic and the results in most cases are in most cases more than pleasing.

As cosmetic surgeries are quickly gaining popularity as an appropriate and rewarding lifestyle choice, many people are coming to realize that they need not be radical. Thus, it is of vital importance to speak with the surgeon of your choice and to ask as many questions as possible. Fighting your anxiety and fears from the very beginning is crucial for you to experience an easier and safer procedure when time comes. One needs to know that while some procedures are more drastic and invasive, others simply involve consistent maintenance. Thus, before one ventures into the realm of cosmetic enhancements, it's important to get first good impartial advice and ask for experts' recommendations, like from highly qualified physicians and surgeons.

Remember that cosmetic surgery is not a substitute for healthy living and diligent skin care, although they can be exceptionally satisfying and rewarding decisions. Since cosmetic enhancements are more than just physical changes, they can address important issues of body image and self esteem. In addition, it is time to correct a misconception. People seeking a solution through cosmetic surgery are not sick of themselves or of their image on their mirrors. They are people like everyone else, but with the desire to do something about a disfiguration, a flaw or a physical feature that creates them a problem that needs an immediate solution that cannot be attained without surgery.

In fact, cosmetic surgery not just makes you look great but also makes you feel good. From feeling bad about their appearances, which ultimately affects their daily interactions with others and most importantly their conception about their own selves, to having difficulty in breathing or performing some kind of physical activity, which results in reduced socialization levels and a feeling of resentment, people have different reasons in selecting a procedure of cosmetic surgery to help them reach their goals.

But this is an important decision that one should be making on its own and not for the sake of the husband, the children or a friend. Thus, if you are considering of making this decision and perform a cosmetic surgery operation, do it only if it makes you better and confident. Most importantly, remember that the results would not be satisfactory if you have unrealistic goals for yourself. Make the realistic goals to feel good about your decision and then research your available choices and consult with those who are certified experts before going ahead with anything.

Nail Salons & Hygiene - What You Should Know Before Getting Your Nails Done
Nail Salons & Hygiene - What You Should Know Before Getting Your Nails Done
I recently came across an interesting article on nail salon hygiene while thumbing through a magazine at my local beauty salon.

In this study, a group of 15 nail salon shadow shoppers was asked to visit professional nail salons and report on their hygiene levels. (Naturally, I imagined myself being one of these lucky shadow shoppers and told to "go for it" at the nail parlor and to spare no expense - can you imagine? I'll take a french manicure, no ... wait! Make that a natural nail manicure, definitely a pedicure, gimme the latest nail fashion and make sure you use the best fingernail polish money can buy. Or maybe I'll just go crazy and add Hollywood nails, no ... acrylic nails, no, wait ... how about some nail tattoos, or some airbrushed nail art ... oh I know! give me some of those fabulous Tammy Taylor nails ... my, how lovely it is to daydream!)

Anyway, over 50 nail salons were visited and, according to the study, more than a third of the salons visited were found to be unsatisfactory, with their main complaints being bad hygiene standards, poor customer service and shoddily done manicures.

Upon entering the salon, the participants were instructed to ask for a complete manicure, tell the nail technician that they had never had a professional manicure done before, then ask the salon professional to describe what the process entailed. After the session was over, each of the participants were asked to fill a questionnaire, reporting on various aspects of their experience - levels of hygiene observed, how long the manicure took and how much it cost and whether the experience was satisfactory or not.

According to the report, 92% of the technicians who attempted to use metal cuticle clippers on the shadow shoppers didn't put on gloves. Even worse, they did not use an implement that was package-sealed, even though half of the nail technicians claimed the instrument had been autoclaved (an autoclave is a pressurized device that uses steam and high water pressure to sterilize equipment). The shoppers also reported several hygiene breaches on equipment such as nail files and buffers, which should either be disposable or cleaned between clients. A few salons had surfaces that weren't cleaned between clients and were covered in dust, or even pieces of skin. In one salon, a technician kept her dirty implements in the cash drawer.

Some of the actual comments from the survey participants regarding the low hygiene levels they experienced were as follows:

"The technician picked up the metal scissors ... used on someone else's feet ... she used them to cut some skin from around her own nail. She then went to use them on me."

"This salon had an overpowering smell that burnt my throat and made me feel ill."

"The technicians washed the handtowels in the foot spas."

"Counters and floors were dirty, instruments reused and technicians did not wash their hands at all."

"The technician had open wounds on her hands. I asked her to put gloves on."

If a salon has overpowering fumes, it may be a sign of poor ventilation, especially where a salon engages in a lot of acrylic nail work. The preferred substance for making acrylic nails, ethyl methacrylate, can be hazardous if used in a salon without proper ventilation. A strong, unpleasant odour could also mean they're using dangerous substances, such as Methyl Methacrylate (MMA).

What To Look For In A Nail Salon

Here are some of the things you look for when visiting a nail salon:

- Use only accredited salons and technicians and look for certifications of competency, which should be displayed prominently in the salon.

- The salon should be clean and tidy, with linen and towels changed between clients.

- All chemicals should be in clearly marked containers.

- Metal tools that could penetrate the skin should be sterilized in an autoclave.

- Non-disposable nail implements should be rinsed, scrubbed in tepid water and detergent and dried, or wiped with 70% alcohol between clients.

- Some nail salons keep implements especially set aside for each regular client. You should ask your nail technician to do this for you, if you are a regular client of a nail salon.

- Nail implements need to be clean and dry. Don't let anyone use an implement on you that's been left sitting in water, even if the water contains disinfectant.

- Don't use a foot spa if you've shaved your legs the night before or on the day of the pedicure, of if you have any cuts on your legs, as this makes you more vulnerable to infection.

- If you are having acrylic nails put on, ask your nail artist to explain the procedure, what products they're going to use and how to care for the nails at home.

- Don't be shy to ask questions about the manicure, the chemicals being used and how the implements have been cleaned.

The salon I normally go to is very professional and clean, the technicians are highly competent and certified and all procedures are explained in great detail when asked. So, I went ahead and pampered myself for almost an hour and got myself some beautiful nails (included in the manicure was a nail bath, filing and buffing and cuticle work) and a massage. Maybe next time I'll go for nail tattoos or those Tammy Taylor nails!

Why a Lady Needs to Look Good and Feel Good
Why a Lady Needs to Look Good and Feel Good
The answer to this seemingly complex question really is quite simple. And believe it or not, the reason has nothing to do with what’s pounded into our heads every day by the media. For example…

Looking good and feeling good isn’t going to lead us into the waiting arms of an ultra-rich, incredibly handsome, honest and caring, polite and well-mannered man who just happens to be available AND interested.

Looking good and feeling good isn’t going to guarantee that our social lives will suddenly be as jam-packed and exciting as all those celebrities whose looks we try so desperately to emulate.

And no, looking good and feeling good won’t turn us into highly sought-after starlets either. (Although it MIGHT help us get chosen for the newest reality television show.)

Ladies – No matter what you see on television, or hear on the radio or in the salon, or read in newspapers and magazines, the reasons given above are NOT the reasons why you should look good and feel good. It’s time you refocus. Now pay attention and I’ll give you the answer. Ready for the big reveal? Here is it.

The reason why a lady needs to look good and feel good is so that her life can be more gratifying. Hold on now. This isn’t as shallow as it sounds. And it doesn’t conflict with what I said above either. When you look good and you feel good you know it and others know it too. And if you still don’t believe or understand what I mean, then think about this.

Think back to the last time you were in a room full of females. Do you remember secretly (or along with your girlfriends) giving each person the 30-second analysis based solely on appearance? Don’t shake your head and get all righteous; you know you did.

As you scanned the room, you could tell in a moment the women who looked good and felt good. Their eyes seemed to sparkle, their steps seemed a bit lighter, their words flowed a bit more freely, and their overall appearance showed a keen attention to detail.

The women who didn’t look good or feel good were just the opposite. The statements they made were full of negative undertones, they had forgotten what their mothers told them about proper posture, they needed someone to tell them NOT to go out looking like that, and they were turning others away faster than they were attracting them.

Which group sounds more like you?

Looking good and feeling good. You almost cannot do one without doing the other. When you look good, you feel good. When you feel good, you cannot help but look good.

How does a lady look good and feel good? It isn’t hard and in fact, looking good and feeling good has never been easier! It doesn’t matter whether you have a lot of time or just a little, or a lot of money or just a little. Once you make looking good and feeling good your number one goal, you’ll be surprised at how many different ways there are to accomplish this goal.

You can start working towards your goal right now just by adopting good eating habits. Try loading up on the foods that keep your energy levels constant rather than eating the foods that temporarily spike your energy but then leave you feeling tired and lethargic. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins and nuts are all excellent foods to work into your diet. You might miss the junk food at first, but give your body a chance and watch it thrive.

Once you’ve recovered from the dietary switch, try working in a little exercise. Thirty minutes of moderate exercise 4 – 5 times a week will go far towards helping you look good and feel good. It might be hard at first to give up your couch for a pair of jogging shoes, but after a few weeks, you’ll find that you actually look forward to this time of day.

Exercise has so many benefits. It’ll help tone your body so even if you don’t lose weight, you’ll look better and your clothes will fit better. Exercise also is a great way to reduce stress. If you’re stressed or you know others who are, you know how much older stress can make you look. Exercise improves your circulation, and that’s vital if you want your blood to transport the vitamins and nutrients needed to help you look good and feel good throughout your body. Improved circulation helps your skin look suppler and your hair look shinier, too!

Changing your diet and incorporating exercise will go far towards helping you look good and feel good. But wait, it doesn’t end there! Remember to enjoy yourself too!

Easy Steps To Have Full Healthy Hair
Easy Steps To Have Full Healthy Hair
The first thing that most people think of when they think of hair is a brand name like Redken, Tigi or Nioxin yet most people that try these name brands also say that they would be willing to try another brand to search for better results. So there seems to be a hierarchy in the hair care world. First of all there are the drug store products that you can buy inexpensively but the surveys tell us that women and men that use salon shampoos have over 80% less hair problems – that is very big!

This means that the first step toward better hair is to use a salon professional shampoo. However the next survey tells us that even these women and men are looking for better results. This was the foundation of developing Nourish Hair Care. Most salon products simply treat the hair with dimethicones that make the hair feel better but they do little to work on the health of the hair.

Nourish hair care uses a tri hair care approach. This means that Nourish products focus on the hair root, the scalp and the shaft of the hair. By focusing on all three parts of the hair the results over time are very beneficial. Vitamins for the hair and shampoo treatments for practically all hair types need to nourish the root and heal the scalp and this results in much healthier hair.

Healthier hair is vital for those that treat their hair. Chemicals can damage hair and strip nutrition. By starting with a healthier hair that is loaded with amino acid building blocks and hair vitamins the hair can have a much stronger bond and this resists damage.

So it is up to you! There are products that can make your hair look great and then there are products that can make your hair look great and actually be great by focusing on the health of the hair. Check out Nourish Brand Hair products online at http://www.nourish-hair-care.com
