5 Ways to Create a Profitable Image
5 Ways to Create a Profitable Image
Recently, I happened to catch part of an E!

Entertainment program called something like, "The 25 Hottest Red Carpet Stars." It showed some of the most beautiful women in the world as they counted down to number one. Uma Thurman, Selma Hayek, Nicole Kidman - all of the "usual suspects" were there. The youngest was Kiera Knightly, the oldest was Sophia Loren. Halle Berry was number one.

As I watched, it occurred to me that in addition to enjoying active careers and all but monopolizing magazine covers these days, many of the women on their list also happen to have lucrative fashion or beauty endorsement deals on the side. Catherine Zeta-Jones (Elizabeth Arden), Angelina Jolie (St. Johns Knits), Ashley Judd (American Beauty by Estée Lauder) - the list goes on and on.

Coincidence? Hardly! Everyone loves a winner.

So when the red carpet reports show "who's hot" and "who's not," companies line up with endorsement deals, hoping to catch some of the stardust coming off the red carpet.

So what does all of this celebrity fashion have to do with you?

It emphasizes just how far a polished image can take you. There are TONS of celebrities out there, but only a handful dominates the magazine covers and endorsement deals. They're not necessarily the most beautiful or the most talented, though a little of both certainly helps. No, these are the ones who understand the power of personal packaging and are savvy enough to "make hay while the sun shines," or in this case, while the spotlight shines on them.

The question is, are you?

Are you harnessing the power of a polished image, whether you're climbing the corporate ladder or are far removed from that world? Are you taking the time to make sure your outside accurately reflects the quality of your inside? Or, like so many women, are you taking an expensive education or in-demand ability and putting it in a discount wrapper?

If so, you're doing yourself a disservice.

As shallow as it is, people DO judge you by how you look. In fact, since your clothing and demeanor reveal SO much about you, from your origins and education level to your probable income, others make snap judgments about you all the time - just as you do with them. If you look and carry yourself like a thoroughbred, others will assume you belong in the race or in the winner's circle. If you're unkempt and plod along obligingly, they'll assume you're a work horse and treat you accordingly - even if you have the talent and instincts to lead the field.

I've seen it too many times to count, even in industries or in positions where looks aren't supposed to matter.

So what can you do to harness this power and use it to your benefit, whether you're in the classroom, climbing the ladder, staying home with the kids, or enjoying retirement? Here are five steps to creating a profitable, "red carpet" image:

1. Make your Appearance a Priority

When you're young and into fashion, how you look may be your only priority. As you get older, however, other things take more of your time like working, raising kids, volunteer work, and the like. Often, we're so busy taking care of others that we lose ourselves in the process. We can justify dropping a lot on dressing our daughter for a special occasion yet balk at spending the same amount on ourselves. Or, if we've put on a few pounds, we put off updating our closets to reflect the new size. We accept the short end of the stick time and again until we look and feel like a work horse - and then we wonder why all we get is more work.

Remember: People treat you how you treat yourself. If you ignore yourself, others with ignore you. If you strive to look like a thoroughbred, people will respond accordingly.

2. Build a Style File

Start by flipping through a few magazines or catalogs or clicking around online. When you find looks you like and that appropriate for your lifestyle, rip them out of the magazines or print off screen shots and start collecting them in a file. You'll begin to see a pattern of the types of clothing elements you like. You can also pick up some nifty styling ideas.

3. Shop in your Closet

Before you head to the mall, flip through your closet and see if you can duplicate any of the looks in your style file with what you already own. Your pieces may not look exactly like what's in the picture (you have a yellow shirt but the picture shows a blue one, for example), but try approximating the look as closely as you can. It's an easy way to look up-to-date without spending anything.

4. Clear the Clutter

If you're having trouble taking stock of your clothes or accessories because you have so much, get rid of the things you don't wear so you can see what you have to work with. If you're hauling around a bunch of stuff in your handbag, tote, or briefcase that you don't need, get rid of it. If every inch of your office or workspace is covered with papers that need to be filed or sorted, clear them out. If you routinely use your car for business or hauling kids and it's a mess, clean it up. In short, get rid of all the clutter around you that's bringing you down and zapping your energy. Once you clear the mess, you'll look and feel like you're in control - instead of totally out of control and incapable of handling more.

5. Strive for Consistency

Finally, strive to present a consistently polished image. Anyone can clean up for a special occasion. But if you make it a priority to consistently look good, you'll not only feel better about yourself, those around you will consistently treat you with respect because they'll know what to expect from you. Those red-carpet starlets don't JUST look good on the red carpet; they look good any time they're photographed, which makes their endorsement partners even more confident that they have the right person for the job.

So it should be with you. A polished image doesn't have to be expensive to be effective. If you strive for a consistent look every time you walk out the door, you'll be delighted by the response you get. Try yourself and see.

The Different Skin Types - Which Skin Type Are You?
The Different Skin Types - Which Skin Type Are You?
The way your skin behaves and reacts determines the type of skin you have. Basic skin types include oily, dry, combination, normal and sensitive. The skin on your face is the best guide to classifying your skin type.

An easy way to find out what type of skin you have is to cleanse your face, wait for an hour and then take a tissue and wipe your forehead, nose, cheeks and chin. If the tissue picks up oily residue from all these areas, you have oily skin; if it picks up oil only from the forehead, nose and chin (T-zone), you have combination skin; if it picks up dry, flaky skin, you have dry skin; and if you do not find oil or flakes, you have normal skin. No matter what type of skin you have, cleansing and moisturizing twice a day is an important part of having healthy, attractive skin. Choose products that are designed for your particular skin type for maximum results.

Beyond the basic skin types, you may also have sensitive skin. Although sensitive skin is often dry, any type of skin can be sensitive. Sensitive skin is usually thin, delicate, reacts quickly to hot and cold temperatures, is easily subject to sun and wind burns and is prone to allergic reactions. Cleansers, detergents, cosmetics, alcohol-based external products and temperature changes can make sensitive skin red, dry, itchy, blotchy and even reveal surface veins. The most favorable type of products to use on your skin are fragrance-free and non-comedogenic (non-pore clogging) with a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or more. Before using any product, it is a good idea to test it on the inside of your wrist to see if your skin has any reaction to it. Always choose mild cleansers and use a soft towel on sensitive skin.

Knowing the different skin types, and which one you have, is the first step toward choosing a skin routine that makes you look and feel your very best.

How Is Cosmetic Different From Plastic Surgery?
How Is Cosmetic Different From Plastic Surgery?
There has been enormous growth in the available procedures for cosmetic and plastic surgery since the beginning of the twentieth century. Along with this has come the standard of looking healthy, young and beautiful. If you are considering a procedure to alter your appearance, you may be looking into cosmetic surgery. Before you choose a procedure, you will want to know their differences. One thing you will want to know is the difference between plastic and cosmetic surgery. While these are both similarly-defined, there are several distinct differences.

Cosmetic surgery, is defined as surgery chosen purely for redefining your looks. If you are dissatisfied with a facial or body feature, you can choose cosmetic surgery to alter the specific area. Cosmetic surgery focuses on reducing lines and wrinkles in the face, removing body fat from a specific area, or lifting, supplementing or reducing a specific body feature.

Plastic surgery, on the other hand, focuses on body reconstruction. If you have a birth defect or have had a disease or injury that has caused a change in your features, you may use plastic surgery to change your body. Plastic surgery is known to remove imbalance as well as heal deformed areas that may have caused pain or problems in the past. If you have had surgery as a result of a disease, plastic surgery may be used to reform your body image.

As cosmetic and plastic surgery advances, the standards for and knowledge of them have also advanced. One of your choices will be in the selection of your surgeon. While both cosmetic and plastic surgeons are required to attend medical school in order to legally perform surgery, their backgrounds may be different. Both cosmetic and plastic surgeons receive the same background medical training. However, a cosmetic surgeon will not receive educational training for cosmetics specifically. They will obtain most of their training through a post-residency training program consisting of workshops, seminars, and eventually, certification.

Plastic surgeons, however, after completing their general medical education will also need to complete a specific training program. The focus, instead of being on cosmetics, will be on learning how to surgically treat physical problems, such as tumors, deformities, and other types of complications. Upon completion of this training, they will then earn a certificate for plastic surgery specifically. Either of these doctors have the option of becoming trained in both cosmetic and plastic surgery.

If you are considering cosmetic surgery, you will want to make sure the surgeon has been certified through a specific training program and has a proper medical background. This will be different than finding a surgeon to econstruct a body defect. By understanding the difference between these two kinds of surgeons as well as surgeries, you will be able to eliminate from consideration some available surgeons when deciding to have cosmetic surgery.

Ten Skin Problems Of Pregnancy
Ten Skin Problems Of Pregnancy
Pregnancy brings with it many changes, emotionally, physically, and mentally. From a mental and emotional standpoint, you’re preparing to adopt a new role of parent, with all its accompanying responsibilities. Physically, of course, you’re dealing with changes in the shape, function, and movement of your body. While we have a society-wide belief that pregnant women are always glowing, that, unfortunately, is not always the case. No where is this more evident than in the skin problems of pregnancy.

You’ve probably heard the phrase, “the eyes are the window to the soul”. If this is true, your skin is the window to your current state of health and the changes taking place on the inside. During pregnancy, aside from all the other issues, you may also have to deal with a variety of skin changes, including rashes, acne, stretch marks, breaking nails, hair growth or loss, and dark blotches on the skin.

Most of these changes are directly linked to the enormous amount of hormonal fluctuations women experience during pregnancy. During pregnancy, there are all kinds of changes which can have impact on your skin, leading to new skin problems or worsening of existing ones. In some cases, pregnancy may actually help improve existing skin conditions. Let’s look at various skin conditions in more detail, defining the main ten skin problems of pregnancy.

1) Rashes. Rashes appear due to irritation of the skin. One common pregnancy rash is called pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy (PUPPP). This is the most frequently seen condition specific to pregnancy. Women with PUPPP demonstrate a rash which starts on the abdomen and can spread to the breasts, arms, thighs, and buttocks.

2) Acne. Acne is another skin condition that may get better or worse during pregnancy. Acne is, at least in part, driven by hormones, so the hormones of pregnancy can lead to more breakouts for some women, and clearer skin for others.

3) Oily skin. Oily skin is third skin condition which may arise during pregnancy. This is related to increased levels of androgen, the male sex hormone, which causes an increase in sebum production. The more sebum produced, the oilier the skin. Many women report that their skin and hair becomes oilier during pregnancy. Most of the time, these issues can be addressed with over the counter oil controlling cleansers and products.

4) Stretch marks. The fourth skin problem of pregnancy, stretch marks arise when the under layers of the skin is stretched, resulting in visible striations on the surface of the skin. Stretch marks can be treated after the fact, but the best treatment is always prevention. Keeping your skin well moisturized, especially on your tummy, breasts, thighs, can help reduce the appearance of stretch marks.

5) Spider angiomas. These are another possible skin problem of pregnancy. Spider angiomas are groups of very tiny blood vessels which gather around a central point and radiate out like the legs of a spider. Pregnant women are likely to develop these on their chest, faces, arms, and sometimes on other places on the body. Most of these spider angiomas clear up after pregnancy.

6) Chloasma. Chloasma, also called melasma, or the “mask of pregnancy” is another skin condition which is diagnosed when certain areas of the skin turn darker because of excess pigmentation. Most often, this condition affects places of the skin which are most often exposed to sun, like the upper lip, forehead, cheeks. This condition is likely to clear up after pregnancy. Again, you can lessen your chances of chloasma by using a good (baby safe) doctor recommended sunscreen throughout the course of your pregnancy.

7) Too much hair. Changes in the hair are also common during pregnancy. Some women lose a lot of hair within a few months after delivery, while many are troubled with excess hair growth during pregnancy. Excess hair growth is most often seen on the lip and chin, and is triggered by an increase in androgen and other male hormones during pregnancy.

8) Brittle nails. Many women experience breaking, splitting, or brittleness to their nails during pregnancy. Physicians aren't quite sure why this occurs, but it may be managed with an over the counter nail hardening polish. Check with your doctor.

9) Skin tags. Skin tags are little pieces of skin which over-grow and hang from the neck. These can increase in number during pregnancy. If you have skin tags before pregnancy, it may be that pregnancy will cause these to increase.

10) Atopic dermatitis. Also known as eczema, this skin condition may appear or worsen during pregnancy. Marked by extreme skin itchiness, too much scratching can lead to the skin become red, swollen, or cracked.

If you are pregnant, be sure to watch for these ten skin problems of pregnancy. If you begin to develop any of these conditions, seek appropriate medical advice; you don’t have to suffer through these conditions for the whole nine months. Chances are that your doctor will have recommendations which can address your skin problems so you can have healthy, beautiful skin, even while you’re pregnant.

Affordable Perfume In A Bottle
Affordable Perfume In A Bottle
When it comes to designer perfumes, there is no doubt that they can be quite costly. Anything of high quality normally comes with a hefty price tag. It’s the same case with perfumes as well. Because of this, perfumes make great gifts for special occasions like birthdays, Christmas or anniversaries. Another thing about perfumes is that they are hardly ever on discount. Yes, this is true but only if you don’t seek hard enough. Today it is possible to buy expensive designer perfumes at a discounted price. In fact, there are other options as well to get these perfumes at a discounted rate.

The best place to look for discount perfumes is undoubtedly the internet. There are virtually hundreds of stores online, which offer great deals on the internet for a whole of designer perfumes. The reason why they are much cheaper online is that they do not have a large overhead to spend. They do not operate from a store where they need to pay for rental or stock up on their merchandise. They provide online and just have to order your goods only when the order comes in. You have to be extremely sure of what you want though because you will not have the benefit of testing the perfume and keep in mind that you need to pay for shipping.

If you do not mind paying for shipping, then shopping for perfumes on discount stores online be good. Another option to buy discounted perfumes is to buy the perfumes that are no longer in production. If you are one those who are not into buying what is the latest and don’t mind wearing a perfume that has not been around for some time then purchasing discontinues perfumes at discounted prices are definitely a great cost saver. Most of the perfumes have a short life span therefore when the demand is not there the price normally dips. You can have a designer perfume without putting much strain on your wallet.

Imitations are also hugely available in the market. Most imitations have really good scent and may have the fragrance just like the real thing but not quite. The price is highly affordable and you can still have a good perfume just minus the designer label. Who knows you might like it more than the real thing.

If you do not mind wearing an inexpensive perfume then you should keep your options open especially when you do not have much to spare. Wearing a perfume is all about finding the scent that you like best. So what if the perfume does not have a famous label on it. As long as it smells good and lasts reasonably long, there is nothing cheap about wearing inexpensive perfumes. The idea is to smell good so it really does not matter how or what.

However, if you still insist on having a designer perfume and you are not so fond of online shopping, then the only other option left is to wait for the right time to buy. Holiday seasons are the best time with plenty of discounts available in most of the stores. Sometimes in a certain time of the year when the stores are doing some clearance to usher in the new stock, there will be plenty of discounts so that they can finish their current stock.

Perfumes are meant to make you smell good and feel good. So what if you are wearing a discounted perfume, the chances are not many will even realize and it is definitely far better than wearing none.

Women Entrepreneurs - 10 Keys To Get Up And Running
Women Entrepreneurs - 10 Keys To Get Up And Running
Yeesh. Women outpace men in new businesses about 2 to 3. Latina women in particular are entering entrepreneurial ranks full speed ahead, outpacing every other demographic group.

So why the heck are women losing ground in the venture capital pool? Less than four percent of venture-backed companies are headed by women, the lowest in ten years.

Four percent.

It’s not much better for angel investors. Only ten percent of angel money goes to businesses headed by women.

As I said, yeeeeesh.

It’s not that the money isn’t there. On the contrary, there are billions and billions of dollars in new venture capital funds and new angel groups. I track those funds, and I know there is a lot of money there.

So how come women aren’t getting their fair share?

The simple answer is that venture capital and angel investment firms are run by men.

More importantly, what can we do about it? While there isn’t a magical answer, there are some real steps that women can take to make their companies a success.

1. Bootstrap the company. Well over 90% of all companies are still bootstrapped, financed by the owners. Male, female, Hispanic, disadvantaged – it makes no difference. This is still your best way to finance a company.

2. Incorporate. If you take your business seriously, others are more likely to do so too.

3. Create a strong Advisory Board. Few things say as much about your company as who chooses to put their names on it. A strong Advisory Board drawn from the industry, comprised of men and women, is a huge asset.

5. Create a strong business plan. Remember, the business plan isn’t meant to sell the business – it is meant to sell you. Your abilities, and those of your management team, are the real key to a strong business plan. Everything else is secondary.

6. Network like your life depended on it, for in truth, your business life may well depend on your contacts.

7. Create a commanding presence on the internet. The next generation will find its success anchored on the internet. Be there.

8. By-pass traditional sources of funding and go straight to corporations. Many corporations have venture capital arms with the sole purpose of identifying and promoting technologies in their fields. And, there is money in those venture capital arms right now.

9. Promote your business before it ever becomes a business. Pre-publicity can bring you to the attention of finance people in your area, and at the very least can begin to create buzz about your business.

10. Don’t shy away from “women’s businesses”. There’s a lot of money in those pocketbooks.

Yes, it is still very possible that you can have the business of your dreams. It is happening every single day for thousands of women.

By the way, did you know that about eighty percent of the venture capital funded businesses fail? Without doubt, the businesses begun by women have a much better batting average than that.

Go for it.

Advantages Of Using A Skin Care System
Advantages Of Using A Skin Care System
Aren't most skin care products basically alike? Does it really matter that I use different brands of skin care products together? I want to look great, and I don't want to waste my money. That was my attitude toward skin care and cosmetics for quite a long time until I learned that there really are some advantages to using a skin care system. Here's what I discovered.

The first and most important advantage to using a skin care system is that the products are designed to work together chemically. The cleanser might slightly reduce the pH balance of your skin while the toner or moisturizer might be formulated to restore the PH balance to your skin. The cleanser and toner may use different amount of an ingredient to remove oil, dirt, and dead skin cells from your skin. The moisturizer may contain oils or ingredients that help sunscreen absorb and work effectively. Even though the system is made up of four or five parts, those parts work so well together that they become something beyond the sum of their parts. Hang in with me for a second and let me explain what I mean.

Do you like peanut butter sandwiches? A sandwich is a system that's better than its individual parts. Imagine that I bring you a plate with a big scoop of peanut butter, a large blob of jam, and 2 slices of bread laying on a plate. I offer you this plate and ask if you'd like to eat it. After you roll your eyes and wonder if I'm nuts, you will decide what to do next.

Now imagine that I bring you a plate with freshly toasted bread, spread with a generous amount of peanut butter and evenly covered with jam, put together as a sandwich. Would you be more likely to accept this plate from me? I'm betting you would. Why is that? It's because your sandwich is complete, and the bread, peanut butter, and jam are working to make something better than the sum of the parts I used to put it together. The first plate had the components of the same sandwich, but they weren't working together, were they?

Skin care products work in a similar way, and when you use a system designed to work together, you get better results than if you use a cleanser from Company A, a toner from company B, and a moisturizer from Company C. Oh, and don't forget about the sunscreen! It comes from company D, and it doesn't absorb into your skin very well because the moisturizer from Company C has a base that won't let the sunscreen do its job. With a system, the parts support each other well so that there are no ingredient clashes.

The other advantages of using a skin care system are important too. When you use a system, it's much easier to solve problems that come up if your skin responds badly to something in the skin care product. Companies that sells skin care systems are usually very easy to approach with concerns and will refund your money if the system doesn't work for you. When you don't use a system, you can't be sure what's irritating your skin and don't know who to turn to for help when you need it. I discovered this for myself when I was using 3 products from different companies and ended up with a rash on my face. I was sure it was the cleanser and threw it away. I found out I was wrong in a hurry the next time I put on the moisturizer! Ouch! I ended up losing the cleanser and moisturizer that day, and that cost me quite a bit of money.

The final advantage of using a skin care system is that you often get a nice price break. Manufacturers reward their customers for making smart choices about their skin by offering them a discount over what they'd pay if they bought each product separately.

With the advantages we've talked about here, I hope you'll consider using a system of skin care products to nourish your skin. You'll save money, get support if you find that the products aren't working as you expect, and get better results to keep your skin looking young, healthy, and radiantly beautiful.

Women Have Secret Weapons In Business
Women Have Secret Weapons In Business
Women have 3 assets that I see as secret weapons in the business world. For the past 30 years or so, women have been encouraged to behave as their male counterparts do so they can succeed and achieve equality. To me, this is backward and counterproductive because we have several valuable skills that businesses need to grow and serve their customers well. Since people are unique, these assets show up differently in each woman. Today I'll share the 3 most important of these abilities with you. My hope is that these skills will be recognized for the powerhouses of strength that they truly are.

Women have strong verbal communication skills. In fact, scientists and psychologists tell us that women speak more than 3 times as many words during a day than men do. Furthermore, our conversations tend to involve responsive listening and focus on the process of relations rather than sharing facts. Women know how to build rapport, understand a person's strengths and weaknesses, and can easily include encouragement in conversation. Businesses need effective communication and team building skills, especially in sales, marketing, and negotiations.

Second, women are intuitively skilled negotiators. They have been conditioned for centuries to get what they want through negotiation and community. No matter how you feel about it, this is an historical fact and is our present reality. Women had little economic power, and they learned how to work in a system where they weren't the boss. Rather than bloody fighting and wars, they learned to work with others and create good compromises or find a win/win outcome. Now that they have economic freedom, they can use the skills they've learned to help themselves reach their goals and do it with class. these skills can help a business flourish by creating partnerships with those they do business with. Win/win situations are good for everybody, and women have a talent for finding ways to make that happen. They've done this socially for centuries, and their mothers have taught them these skills from infancy. Women just don't recognize it and thus think they can't negotiate in business matters. They can, and they can often see win/win options that their male colleagues miss.

The final secret weapon women have is their ability to work as part of a team. Again, this is partially due to their inborn character as a female and partially due to their cultural conditioning. Have you ever noticed that when you're with a group at a restaurant, one woman at the table says she's going to use the ladies room; almost immediately others will go with her. They often will go as a group and will come back to the table together. You don't see this behavior from men. Our culture seems to value the image of a self-made tycoon who takes the business world by storm. Reality is very different though. Most "self-made" business tycoons have a quality team of support staff behind them. It is actually the power of the team that brings success. Those companies who reward employees for good teamwork will profit and will survive when hard times come. Women excel at teamwork, and they should be sought out for this quality. Mary Kay Ash understood this well, and she became wealthy by creating a team and helping each team member to reach his/her personal goals.

Women who recognize the power of these 3 secret weapons can accomplish anything they want to do. Using her strong communication skills, her ability to negotiate well, and her teamwork skills, the sky is the limit. Will she be a self-made tycoon? Probably not, and to me, that's as it should be. Can she build wealth and reach her dreams? Yes! You would win that bet!

Tips On How To Use Sugar In Hair Removal
Tips On How To Use Sugar In Hair Removal
Sugaring, a recipe for hair removal. This hair removal technique starts in the kitchen. Start with a cup of regular sugar, a quarter cup of honey, and juice from half of a lemon. Microwave this mixture for two to three minutes or until it starts to bubble. It should have a smooth consistency at this point. Leave the bowl to cool for about five minutes.

Now that the sugar solution has cooled you need to get a wooden stick similar to a tongue depressor for applying it, while still in the kitchen grab some corn starch. You will also need multiple strips of non colored cloth, cutting up an old white T-shirt works well.

Sugaring works like waxing and the sugar and honey solution will stick to the hairs to assist you in pulling the hairs out by the roots, so unfortunately, like waxing, it will hurt.

Clean and dry beforehand the area you plan on sugaring. Be careful that this area is free from residue of soaps or lotions. It is said that sugaring will work the best on the upper lip hair line and the bikini area. This process is messy so it is best to do this in the bathroom or somewhere you can be sure clean up is as easy as possible.

Start by spreading some cornstarch on the area to be treated. Please note that whatever area you decide to treat the effects will last from two to six weeks with fine hair growth beginning to show about two weeks after the application. The more noticeable hair growths will show about four weeks after application.

After you have prepped the area with the cornstarch use the wooden stick or some similar applicator to apply a thin layer of the sugar mixture. Next, place a strip of cotton cloth over this. Use your hand to apply moderate pressure to this cloth rubbing it in the opposite direction of your hair growth. Take the end of the cloth strip and swiftly snatch it off in the opposite direction from that which your hair grows in. Use warm water on the treated skin to take off any of the sticky sugar mixture which may remain. If you desire, you can put an unscented lotion on the skin now.

Ahh, now you can relax you have mastered sugaring.
